How to Activate Your Grains:

Because these grains are safely dehydrated to protect them during transit, they require a vital rehydration process to wake up before they can ferment regular batches.

Activation Steps

Care & Maintenance Tip: Live kefir cultures are highly sensitive to metal, which can weaken or kill them over time. Always use glass jars along with plastic, silicone, or wooden strainers and spoons when handling your grains.

1.Initial Submersion:Step 1.

Place the 1g of dehydrated grains into a clean glass jar and add 200ml of fresh, room-temperature whole dairy milk.

2.First Incubation:Step 2.

Cover the jar with a breathable cloth or a fermentation lid. Leave it at room temperature (20–24°C) out of direct sunlight for 24 hours.

3.Strain and Refresh:Step 3.

Strain the liquid using a non-metal strainer. Note: This first batch of milk may smell or taste off and should be discarded. Place the grains back into the jar and add 200ml of fresh milk.

4.Repeat & Final Wake-up:Step 4.

Repeat this 24-hour cycle of straining and adding fresh milk for 3 to 5 days. You will know your grains are fully activated when the milk begins to thicken, develops a clean, pleasantly sour aroma, and the grains look plump and jelly-like. They are now ready to brew regular daily batches!
